Well, looks like I'm coming across another goofy reverse proxy issue. It seems that people who use www.lavadomefive.com to try and register an account get eternal messages that the CAPTCHA crap is failing, even though they're doing it right. Finally had a patient user get a hold of me and let me know about it, saying he didn't think he was crazy, and he wasn't.

For those who want to make an account, please try accessing the forum using http://lavadomefive.com/forum or http://quadpod.lavadomefive.com/forum and let me know if you have any better results trying to get your account submitted for registration. I have a feeling that the quadpod address will be the winner, but too lazy to test myself tonight from outside.

I seem to get logged out most times I post a reply or edit a post: forum page (regular LD5 domain) -> post reply (regular) -> login (regular) -> post reply again (quadpod) -> success and forum page (regular).

*Begins freaking out again*

I wasn't even aware we had a proxy. I suppose that kind of convenience occasionally backfires.

Still, an asshole CAPTCHA is a serious issue - new members are valuable for reminding the veterans to keep checking in - and I'm glad it was discovered and resolved.

Well, not just a regular proxy, what's called a reverse proxy, it's so that I can host multiple web sites/domains on the same IP. In staring at this thread again, I may have something relatively low-tech to try and resolve it this weekend.

I just saw someone named joeleopard put in a registration "just to see if it's working" so not sure who that was. Assuming one of you guys? If so, which URL did you use?

Since someone got through, I'm assuming they used one of the following two URL's to register:

http://quadpod.lavadomefive.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=register

or

http://www.lavadomefive.com/forum/ucp.php?mode=register

Still waiting to hear back from test subjects.

Does anyone notice a Google.bot or majestic.bot online it seems like they are becoming mores and more visible is that suppose to happen? Does anyone think to do anything about it? I'm just wondering because when someone gets on it too logs on.

First post after finally being able to register! *waves to folks*

The CAPTCHA thing doesn't work at all in Firefox it seems. I had to use IE to complete it.

Yeah, until I upgrade/migrate/fix/whatever this current forum software, I might just turn off the stupid cappychas stuff since bots get past it anyway. How can bots get past it, and people can't? :)

I noticed that problem when using Firefox, no such problem in IE.

Maybe the Q&A plugin will work better than captcha.
