You draw the imiges on an art program and move them over to Macromedia flash or some other fancy thing and set it all up into a loop I know only how to do the basic ones

You don't have to get that fancy - just get Unfreez!

It should be super simple to drag, drop and arrange your pictures how you want, but if you really need help there is a video tutorial here.

Alas, someone uses TWO frames as an animation.

It's like two pictures in a back-to-back side-scrolling amazing adventure. :)


It's like you putting two frames into :stomp:.

Well, it's cute. :)

Although I hear the critics tip-toeing in...

EDIT: I should critique you then.

The thing is, the paw does NOT look like it's moving substantially. If I'm to assume something, it's more like the buildings hit the paw instead. What you want to do is to place the claw all the way down to give the illusion that FOOT-->TOP OF BUILDING = SQUISH.

Get the hint?

It takes a lot of time to make an animation.
Actually, it took me 5 hours to make a gif animation of 8 seconds and then I used 64 frames.
I think Paint Shop or Photo Shop is useful to make some long animations.

Nice to see someone's got a nice freeware app for some'n like that. You might want to look into Flash animation tools as well, though...you can have a lot more fun with just the tools that are provided with very basic drawings and shapes.

Keep in mind that animations become exponentially more difficult the longer to intend to make them. At least, that's how it's always felt for me. Another good rule of thumb is that the more complex an object or drawing is, the harder it is to animate. To take a quote from Parody Rangers In Space: "Oh no! The art is too detailed! The Megazord cannot move its body!"

If you know you have difficulty drawing certain things but aren't sure where to start, why not try learning from the best? Just scan FA for simple, yet quality sketches or line drawings. Then you can take two paths:

1) While the image is on your screen, copy it onto a blank sheet of paper by continually looking between the image and your paper. Start at a focal point such as the eyes and guess distance for things like ears and hair from there.

2) Print the image, then place a blank sheet of white paper over the image and draw what you can see through the blank sheet. This is a more direct form of tracing, but more effective for building "muscle memory."

Never publish traced art (that is severely frowned upon) but keep it in a personal folder. Your brain knows how to make good art; this technique helps transfer that knowledge to your hands.

Ahh, you say you have a scanner, right?

Do you have a light box? [something to look over another layer like one paper over another and you can see what's underneath it]

Also, I use Adobe Flash CS3, if you'd like to know.

That's OKAY.

An animation is an animation. As long as there's an animation, the technical stuff can move aside for the moment.

I hope you know how well you need to do to make an animation, right? I mean, it's a LOT of work filling in every frame and position and other techniques you can throw in.
