No dont get us wrong, I'm not against FA as such. Giving artists a place to throw their anyhow furry-related stuff and not be pricky about the content is great. (Though admittedly you have to make an account first to see the smut, but not every site can be as great as LD5, can it?)
But with its favouriting and friends and "this artist has 65378 friends and been vavourited eleventybajillion times so you better check out his stuff now because the crowd says so while this one has no friends and only 20 favourites so you dont have to look at it" and people shouting at popular artists sites and shout-thanking everyone for every watch or favourite or visit hoping some of the popularity rubs off to them that way it has become an annoying friends2.0 thing as I like to call it.
And then there's that certain kind of people on it. If you are mainstream and only search for macro spooging, hyper boobs and cum inflation, you most likely wont notice. Its when you search for something that is not everyone's thing AND can be hated openly because it doesnt have such a big worshipped crowd of followers as the above that you realize how even the few artists that draw it dont post it or even take their existing work featuring it down. Either because it gives them flame or makes them less popular and thus loose the game.

Exactly that.

Of course people that want to see the smut but not contribute make an account if you force them to.

Those that dont say that they are not (which are the ones that are in my gallery or even the forum here too) are.

FA is what you make of it really. ^^ If you want to partake in the big popularity contest, go right ahead. I just post stuff there and talk to people about it. :3 I never caught on with the whole shout at everyone for everything non-stop thing. Its not a wonder some of them have such high pageview counts in comparison to others.

FA rocks! Why would you feel even remotely in competition with it? It's for mass distribution of art, not for community discussions, and it does its thing very well.

Of course there are fickle morons there who think getting people hooked on their porn makes them VIPs, but surely that's not really doing any harm...?

My view is that I have befriended a lot of furrys and what nots on Fa and there is one who keeps always asking me so why did I join Fa if not to submit things.., I have the conversation a lot of times Im only on Fa to enjoy the work of others I have no artistic talent what so ever so eh.

Hmm, maybe I should get an account and just never look at it, just to rebel against the system.

I say, it's not easy when you're not "as popular", but meh. I don't really care what happens on FA but it helps me recognize style!

Oh, its a great site to find your daily dose of smut and see art. It's even pretty open and not censored by "The admin doesnt like this stuff" like many other places, and easy to use, and thus has become the one place where you can find everyone, something I appreciate. And as long as you just want a steady supply of stuff that is popular with a lot of folks its probably all you can ever wish for.
Its just when you look for or want to post something that is not popular or hope people look at your art when you are not already popular, then the big popularity machine and noisy followers of it become the enemy.

Ah yes, I hadn't thought of that... And also there are the people who like to spam the work of minority fetishists with 'eww gross' kind of comments - that can certainly be annoyingly hypocritical.

Ironically, the two pictures i've included the macro tag in on FA have far more views than anything else I've posted there! Bah humbug.

Aeon, when will you learn that everyone likes macro?

You can't blame FA this time; the problem isn't with their hardware, it's something to do with the colo losing its internet link. They're in the process of moving the server to a new colo I believe.
