My interest in the visual arts has been very limited. I disliked coloring books as a child, didn't care for drawing maps in Geography, and held a grudge against Art class in high school for ruining a 4.0 GPA.

Even then I've never really tried to draw anything living (except that one watercolor painting of an orca pirate) and especially not a human figure. So I thought I'd give it a try tonight. It's kind of therapeutic for me, even though I find it a huge pain in the ass. I'm glad I kept it to the lower half so I didn't have to embarrass myself drawing a head. Maybe next time. Hand is janky, did what I could. Toes were a nightmare. I spent half the drawing time redrawing the toes and toeclaws. And it's not just because I'm a pawslut! They were hard... I am mostly satisfied. For the building I tried to study a Blue drawing, but I do not have the steady and straight hand to achieve such structural perfection. Not to mention you should be able to see the roof on it considering the perspective. Agh, at some point I just say good enough, I drew something. >_<

Anyway, here's my first furry artwork then, and the first try at anything anatomical. Such as it is.

FULL HIGH RES PICTURE!

Well congratulations on posting your first furry picture!

It's a pretty damn good first attempt, too - the leg structure looks very good and yes, all that redrawing of toes was well worth it, I would say. As you say, the perspective on the building and on the character don't quite match up (you should probably see more of the building roof or less of the top of the feet), but perspective can be a bitch to get right - especially if you aren't used to drawing the same thing over and over!

Great work, Selendro 8-)

Other than the stomper's (raised) right foot looking a tiny bit off, this is not atall shabby.

I always have to tell myself to just look at the /lines/ I'm trying to draw, rather than the object itself, which it seems like you're doing intuitively. It's better to just look at lines and space (negative or positive) than process everything as a whole since there are names and symbols for whole objects, but not individual lines i.e. if someone asks you to draw a chair, you'll scrawl one of those upsidedown 4s (they take all of 3 strokes of a pen or pencil) and be done with it. However, this is less a chair and more the symbol for a chair, despite the fact they may have a common characteristic or two. The prompt is vague as "draw a chair" can also translate as "draw all chairs" which results in a placeholding symbol for "all chairs." However to draw "this particular chair," it's a matter of just seeing what it looks like, and getting its lines onto the paper, one stroke at a time.

Long story short (tl;dr for you trendy kids):
You're a natural. Keep at it.

Thanks for all the comments, by the way!

Yeah, I see what you mean. I think I do tend to think that way, and perhaps now that you mention it 2 years of drafting might help there. We never did much freehand drawing (computer drafting appealed to me on the same level I have stated before about liking to type in number values to get what I want) but I did do some.

Can you just put your foot on a piece of paper and trace it? :)

 I think it looks pretty good to be honest! Better than I can do! I normally use pictures from the internet and copy them using MS Paint!
