I've been working on a Wargreymon model recently and DAMN! Making armour stick to him is tricky!

I haven't had time to animate a proper victim and finish the rigging yet, so I just posed my old human model under him for a few pictures:

I notice the toes are very Diablo-esque. :)

I am loving that color depth because, with a proper background and the lighting just right, it could look like something straight out of No More Heroes.

I can't explain why the concept of this stuff in a lighting style that practically obscures half the model from sight would totally make my day, but there it is. Probably because Wargreymon would make for an awesome boss fight, where you have to slice all that armor off one piece at a time...

I like that feet.
Partly because of the comic shading I guess, that works very well with the model. :)

oh yes, I see there are some good cell shading on the models.
You made his feet sexier than the original one. :)

Really, RavenClaw? I do disagree. :) Maybe we should have a survey one day of, after identifying proper ways to describe toes, seeing who likes what 'shape' best. :) I'd call this variant of toe, the toe Diablo prefers (obviously), I'd call them "keyhole" toes, as the profile of them viewed toe-on is kind of a keyhole shape...rounded and fatted just at the bottom, but tapered to a thin vertical section above. I guess I can theorize as to why those are appealing -- Diablo often points out how he loves pads on his dino-toes...heh, and is often defending that from apparently invisible invaders who are arguing with him that dinos don't need toepads -- so the fact that the toes fatten out supports the existence of pads beneath them.

Myself, my favorite kind of toes are even beyond what the original Wargreymon toes were...almost fully rounded, with egg-carton-bottom talons on the end, which can have a little flattening underneath. Wargreymon's original toes had pretty pronounced flattening, but it still qualifies as being the same type as my favorite. :)

Rounded toes, eh?

How intriguing! I think that a toe that has a triangular (or keyhole, as Dino puts it) cross section looks vastly more powerful and stable and sturdy than a rounded one. Rounded, to me, is far softer and cuddlier than I like.

Sorry to digitally disappoint, Dino!

Goddamn, that's right. I knew this reminded me badly of something, but I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

The toon shader really works well for this, I think it will be suiting the atmosphere even better when it is all moving.

Awesome.

Seeing a compiled ani of this is going to be sweet.

I'm not sure quite how you're doing it, but maybe try just grouping/parenting the pieces of armour to each corresponding "bone" in the rig... there ought to be a way to do that. Whether you can make further tweaks such as relative angle-based drivers or have one piece half-follow one bone and half another is dependent upon your software. I know this can be done in Blender. I don't know how Handsoff™ or just ® you feel about the model/rig itself but we could prolly port it in and I could maybe lend a hand. You maybe have your own system already.

Leaving that I'll just say I'm looking forward to what you do. I've always been a fan of (black) Wargreymon prettymuch ever since I got a taste for DigiWorld (even though the human characters are arguably even more despicable than that of Pokémon... but whatever. That's why we just pick out our favourites and make porn of them, I guess).

After an image-search, I don't really feel like Diablo has Diablo-ized the paws that dramatically. Like if we look here, we see slightly longer claws to keep the model upright without magnets or fancy gyros or such, but I think the fourth shot shows us that there really isn't vastly amounts of variation from what our artist is bringing us here. That said, I'd love a bit less tringle-placed-on-cylinder-with-subdivision-turned-on myself, but I'm not sure that in motion it'll much matter.

A quick movement test. I'm still not sure about the cartoon shader...

Apart from the clipping (which I know doesn't matter as part of the test, so don't care), so very smexy. And see, from most angles I do find these toes really sexy...but when seen head-on so you can see the teardrop/triangle/inverted keyhole silhouette, that's just less appealing to me. From the side angle and bottom, they're mega-chunky, just the way I likes 'em!

As for the toon shader...it is what it is. I think, however, you may get even better results just using a regular shader but sans textures...kinda like that Gourad shading stuff. :)

i didnt like it much.. i prefer normal shading.. but ofcourse you can render as both when you finished animation right?
