After realizing that a I forgot what I actually wanted to do with the recent cavemen thing, or coming to the conclusion that it was crappy for a game design, I pondered more about perspective and after realizing that as cool and doable as sprite-faked true perspective is it would be a pain in the ass to add the interaction to it, ...
I decided that isometric is probably the only way to go. I saw an inspiration and thought I'd go with something more cartoony.

So, in between me being all busy with really important things (tm) I did some pixelling, and though I'd give you a puny glimpse of the basical graphics of that most recent project I so far dubbed "nightscroll" for obvious unspectacular reasons.

Ah, the isometric view...now there's a tip of the hat to the games of the 80's. I'm looking forward to this!

I cant help it, I just love the charm of those old few-colors simple-geometry plain-graphics games that had to work with so little yet still often managed to create a very unique atmosphere with that. Often much more so than the latest yet-another-newest-fps-game of later days with even more lifelike rendering of cloth texture and refelctions on your fingernails and yet more spectecular explosions.
Yes, I am SO a retro raptor. :)

Not sure yet if I shall add lights to them, given it is night. :worried:

As an alternative you could make streetlamps on either (or both) sides that provide circles (or, uh... squares) of light. I don't know if whatever program(s) you're using for an actual game can work with layers of color... you would have to make three different color palettes for every object, representing no light, low light and strong light. Trilby: the Art of Theft used that mechanic quite well.

That looks very classy, Blue!

I told you I am still looking for sprites for the protagonist!

You give me sprites of a raptor in the needed animated actions to do macro stuff, and there'll be raptors. :)

And I think I will go with little brighter car lights and a faint doublecone sprite on teh street in front of the cars.
Planning on Game Maker btw.

Oh! It's like Earthbound!

That was a fun game and good memories. :)

Can I ask: Were you into any game designing before and would you create commercial games eventually?

No, I only ever have weird ideas, and have too wild fantasies and the insane fixation to plan those into the deepest detail.
(and happen to know quite some about programming)

I pondered a commercial aspect of games, and wouldnt mind monies for sure, but I dont think macrophile furries are a very worthwhile market, and the only marketing model I came up with that would allow to sell it more than twice to folks that then send copies to everyone by individualizing it to feature each customer's character didnt work in terms of work versus reward.

Sure there are sites out there where you can sell your Game Maker games for a dollar or two and cool games do actually make some cash there I heard, but furries are too strongly connected for that. In less than a week all of the ones that might enjoy the game would have a copy. :)

Well I've mostly been busy with RL angst and pixelling boring cars, but so you dont think I wouldnt do anything here's a little peek at a car flattening sprites.

Just the car being with very heavy air upon it:

With a generic and totally random foot of noone in particular added:

As I promised Dino, here is a little walking-on-cars preview for today.

Since I still lack sprites for a protagonist its the upsized pudgy dragonthing from the former game attempts again.
Also its also with only one boring car and sans any houses yet.

Walking is done with the num block, and there is nothing else to do.
Zooming is supported I think, as was part of the demanded specs, but I didnt assign any keys to it yet.

Hooray for big pudgy dragon-things! And I appear to be able to make him walk right up into the air, or down off the screen. This amuses me. :3

We have a strong anti-restricting policy for big pudgy dragonthings. ;)
