Want to know why? Well, I'm a fan of Bruce Campbell. Given, he's the kind of B-movie sci-fi action. He's the guy from Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, and so forth. He kicks ass.
But that's not really why. It's because...well, for those who aren't familiar with the Amerikan cable channel "The Sci-Fi Channel", they have a history of making "original motion pictures" that are usually the worst things you can possibly imagine. They're just horrible. But so I see this $8 DVD at Best Buy, and it's called "Alien Apocalypse." It has a big pic of Bruce Campbell on the front, and it's billed on the back as "the highest rated Sci-Fi Channel original movie ever aired".
Oh, my God it was bad. Really bad. Not even worth $2 to rent bad. Not even enjoyably funny bad. Just bad. The budget had to be $10,000. The voice acting was so bad it was overdubbed. But what struck me as the worst was the computer graphics effects.
Seriously, guys. The stuff that Arokh and AlternateArtisan and other non-A-starting arr-teests (like Markie and Diablo) around here have done is better than what was in the movie. They would put the cheap effects in this movie to shame.
So even with a handheld HD camera, the software on my PC, and the talent of 3-D artists here at the Dome, we could make a better movie. Seriously. No kidding. It's not an exaggeration.
Now, I'm not saying we should make one. Why? Oh, because I'm lazy. But what I'm saying is that I know a lot of 3D arr-teests think they're really not doing anything really good. Trust me. TRUST ME. You are. You could easily get a job making effects for movies. Just watch "Alien Apocalypse."
