Well...I might not have to worry about this 3D collaboration server distracting me from working on Faibanx 3D because...well, it's as much a fucking piece of shit as that old version of OpenCanvas...maybe even moreso. It was abandoned and released as free last year, and the last tiny online community that even tried to make the shit work dried up in February of this year. Nope, can't find evidence of a single server of this crap being hosted anywhere.

So...I'm going to post on that dead forum and see if I get any reply. I want to at least hook up (as a client) to someone else's 3D server before I see if I even want to bother resurrecting this thing. To say it's "obtuse" is putting it mildly, so unless I can see some neat shit going on with it and/or even verify it'll do what I want with the guys in this community, I'm going to shelve it and get back to thinking about getting another demo out.

Why do most programmers suck?

Because laziness always wins over devotion these days.

Especially since things have become so complex and complicated that it takes several man-years to come up with something state-of-the-art.

Ooooh....looks like Second Life is upping the antiem by adding "Voice Morphing" to the scene: http://blogs.secondlife.com/community/f ... e-morphing

*spins down into a vortex* Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...!

Actually, thanks for the bump. Apart from a few RL issues at home I need to deal with (tooth pain, cat operation, etc.), I should be able to start focusing on Faibanx3D again, 'cause I don't see any big work efforts on the horizon right now. We've shrunk into a single office building, so now we should be back to just 'keeping shit running' mode.

RL problems are no fun... here's hoping all's well with your cat and teeth. But, hooray for Faibanx3D development! Save us from the inferior macro simulations of Second Life, Dino! Saaaaaave usssssss!

When you do get time to sit down with F3D, which part are you planning on working on first?

Still not sure. I'm not sure if I wanna delve into Blender and start assembling models and working on getting a workflow that will feed models effectively to DarkBASIC, or whether I just wanna do what I'm good at (programming) and work up a client/server framework first with just some simple cubes and crap or whatever as models.

I think it's better to start the programming first, which has to make more logical sense than visuals and sounds because without that there wouldn't be meaning behind what you're presenting.

It's kinda like the Matrix if you're really gaining true knowledge or not in the virtual world...I think.

Well, what I'm also very close to doing is opening up the 3D collaboration server. In the test lab I have set up on Friday, I actually got the thing working! I should be able to deploy the "3D version of OpenCanvas" this coming week. :)

Now that you say that, I MUST say this next thing: WHAT ARE THE SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS?!?!? :3~

Meh, enough to play 3D games, I'd assume. It's just a 3D development environment, also abandonware just like it's pseudo-cousin, OpenCanvas. I hope to dicker with it before week's end and get it online.

Naw, I have absolutely NOTHING to do at work anymore, so I'll spend tomorrow hammering on it again. It appears I might get lucky and just have the VM version be the final version, so I don't need to use that dedicated miniminimicro PC to run it. I've already proven I can get away with using the server side without even seeing a 3D view, so a VM would be perfect.

*brushes up on my physics and starts reading Newtonian force*

Oh BTW, what are we going to do in this collaboration? Discuss? Create 3D art? Make fun of Dino and go squeesh?

I dunno, whatever you feel like. And as of this second, the server's officially up. I'll make a new thread in a sec with the info.
