Well, for sure, the trueSpace shit is dead. The software is just donkeyshit. As Blue says, every couple of years I put s'more work into it. The wiki at http://faibanx3d.lavadomefive.com:88 is still there, but I'm still dithering between three different development environments -- either DarkBASIC Professional, Blender (already chosen for modeling, but may use the built-in 'game engine'), or Unreal Engine 3 (since the SDK for that is free).

I still have a massive stockpile of resources for the game, models and landscapes and stuff. Just need to find another spark to get me going again.

Unreal. It's good, it's tested, it's proven, it works. And it has decent physics.

But, when last checked, has scale limits.

Have you looked for hacks around said limits? It might be worth poking around.

Ofcourse, acceptability depends on the hack. If performance or other features are garbage'd as a result then we're back to square 1. I'd suggest we do it Furc-style (thatis, a big lobby for folks to wander around in and ' Dreams ' which can have different rulesets, dynamics, sprites (in the case of 2D) and Mukke) but I'm supposing you want it to be a big open-world sorta deal, but perhaps with the F3D map broken into load-sectors or such? Let's be reasonable here. I guess if someone's character were to span across multiple sectors they'd just have their avatar simplified (I'd vote for ' fog ' or clouds to mask the given clip-distance) and be represented separately somehow. At the point where I consider how things perform in Black and White when you tell your critter to go rampage through a highly populous town and they are at a large size, I'd be inclined to imagine some sort of a lobby-system where grow-size (get as small as you want, however) is limited to some factor that'd keep a bounding box within a load-zone or certain percentage thereof... given the folks we have around here, if we had full collisions enabled and a big wolf or two wandering around (example because the local wolves come to mind the most size/growth-whorish) on the worldmap, it'd make it impossible for normal plays to do much other than get kicked around or even just have no idea wtf because everything's exploding or something huge is clipping the camera, or forcing it to pan way the heck out, a problem for a player if wolf dick/etc is "do not want".

Yeah, I know, I really need to look into engines again someday. :) Things are quieting down on the vintage computing front, so maybe I'll get more into a programming mood, and spend time with both vintage programming and F3D programming. :)

Do need to come up with a better name, something undeniably descriptive of it. Ideas?

Would imply it's stomp only, and conflicts with effective Google searching. :)

I've been racking my brains to outdo Aus— I mean S-mon, but his suggestion is pretty solid; there's no properly blowing it out of the water. Forsooth, Camasa certainly has a charming ring to it. Maybe my suggestions will just serve to prove that alternate options are a bad idea.

Apart from some crummy halfway-grocked backronyms for Faibanx and a few others that would take us a long while to fight our way up the searchranks for, one example being BYSTANDERS (I forget quite what I'd come up with) and then a series that would somehow start with FAG ("finally a game for/with" e.g. FAGS — finally a(nother) game with sizeplay), I'll list a few which are either amuzing or that might spark some ideas or be tweaked to something suitable.

Faibanx / Faibanks

Fancy An(y) Idea Becoming An Experience? (posed as a question, maybe? or not)
...
Finally An Interactive Blueprint that Appeals to our own sick needs
Finally An Idea Becomes A... (*shrug* I'll let someone else run with this one)
Fancy Area in which Big and Not-so-big Kritters (can) Shrink and Scale (Faibankss, I guess)
For An(y) Innocent Bystander (again... *shrug*)
Finally An Improvement on our Boring Ad Nauseum Experience (Right. Sure. So if Eeyore is my father, who's my mother, then?)

AlCatraS
( = All Creatures Great and rather Small )

The GREATEST Game
The Greater Than Less Than Game

GRABASS
Great Big Huge and Super Small
Greatest Bigest Hugest and Smallest Game

I dunno yet. I need to do another eval of Blender, DBPro and UDK.
