Post subject:  And this is the beginning: Minekruft!

Well, about time I posted it here.

A very generous new user gifted a copy of Minecraft to me about a week ago now, when there was a discussion on Faibanx that although I thought it looked interesting, the price of admission was a bit too high for a low-tech indie sandbox type game.

Well, it's a week later, I've played nothing but, and I've now fired up a LD5 Minecraft server, although I did promise I would play on his server as well. I got SilverClaw interested in it as well, and he's been tinkering on the server for the past couple days as well, but I guess it's time to slowly open it up to more players (I have it whitelisted, so you need to be added to the member's list to play). Just doing a survival mode "Slipper World" map, on easy, and I've got the server physically running on a little cube of a PC itself...it's only about 6x as big as a Raspberry Pi...which I understand just recently also got a free version of Minecraft.

Anyway, I'm going to try and breathe and eat and stuff and since I have Monday off, maybe make s'more music, but...holy crap, is Minekruft addictive. JOIN US

I've had a fair amount of secondhand experience with Minecraft, and tried it myself for a while. I can see the appeal, and the potential for "life-sized" pixel art is considerable... but it's just not what I need in a game right now. The 'vast open world' is covered by Skyrim (which I've been ignoring for several months) and the 'create anything' angle is done with (slightly) better graphics in Scribblenauts and its sequels.

Sorry!

If there's enough players, I'd be interested. :)

It's very laggy from remote these days...I'm going to work on getting a better Internet connection next week after crap settles at work.

Well, so far, I have Andreas, SilverClaw and Ragora in the server, doing various things. I've just started the grand Slipper Temple, which ....is really going to be a ridiculously huge temple. The premise of Slipper World (the survival mode game in which I'm hosting) is that it's really in a planetary-sized slipper, and as such, us lowly peons are creating a huge temple representing the slipper we're in.

It's going to be...ah, 600 meters by 401 meters (or blocks). That doesn't sound like a lot, but I think even with a dozen people helping, it's going to take months. :)

Anyway, just send me an email or page mail or Faibanx nag or something, and I'll get you added to the whitelist and give you the name of the server.

Good luck with all that, chief. :) Mega builds of that nature certainly can take a while. Especially if you're doing them in survival mode, not creative.

Oh, we'd be talking years in survival mode, so I'm doing just the slipper construction in creative.

Here are some screenshots.

you know in the time it takes to make this on minecraft you can probably learn the basics for some kind of 3D program and go nuts with making giant fuzzy slippers~!

Hey, Dino, if I made Woulfe on MineCraft my computer, could it be imported into the FB MineCraft ?

I think that might be possible, not sure, might have to experiment a bit.

With the height limit on MineCraft I'll have to make Woulfe laying down to get anywhere near full scale, eh ?
