Legacy LD5

...firstly, because I was very rude to Blue today in my at-work angst that I'm dealing with now, and I should apologize, but secondly because this is the sort of stuff that Blue (wife #3) desperately wants to post and brag about but can't bring himself to. So here goes!

I don't know what website Blue is going to...and yes, I realize there's a name or something in the corner, but do you think I'd go there?...but apparently there's some magical website that tells you how Popular(tm) websites are. How many smacks, hits, whatever that they get. And as I said, as much as I keep LD5 from becoming a popularity contest by purposefully having brain-dead gallery software that doesn't allow people to see how they rate compared to the other artists and hiding some forum statistics, Blue is exactly the opposite...although he'll never admit to being that way. If I could tell you how many years he's been on Faibanx MUCK agonizing about how THIS place is more popular and THAT place is always busy and why can't WE be like that...man. And if I could tell you how Blue has been taking the wg statistics from the muck (the graph that shows you how many people were on [low-high] each hour of the day and has made this web page with an ASCII graph showing trends and crap...I'm serious, it's nuts. The guy is just absolutely despondent if we're not swimming in activity. Actually, since we had the Match Game in December, we finally seem to have hit the critical mass on Faibanx to get a better sized crowd...which means I need to do something stupid to drive everyone off so it can go back to being quiet again. But don't tell Blue about my plans to keep us a hole in the wall, I like it that way.

Anyway, Blue shows me this graph when I take 10 seconds out of my hellish work day to make sure LD5 hasn't exploded, and he didn't really say anything else. Yes, the guy is THAT bad when things are slow, he just returns to "normal" if he finds out we're apparently popular. So here it is, the graph from some I'm sure COMPLETELY reliable website thingy somewhere that says we're more popular than my old pals at the Evil Empire(TM), macrophile.com.

I guess what I should also mention to Blue is that if this site is only showing stuff that's hosted at http://www.lavadomefive.com, it's missing out on the dozens of LD5 member sites hosted on a completely different IP address and server (download.lavadomefive.com)...so we probably didn't just edge them out, it's probably a big difference. So now, I can see Blue rushing to get the stats for THAT site and aggregate it and make a pretty ASCII graph and show the world how he has finally succeeded and Raptorland uber alles and all that stuff and try to take over furaffinity.net next.

That was a joke! Such a crap for free thinks-themselves-smart-makes-up-data-to-look-cool site that analyzes websites wouldnt even mean anything if it actually TRIED to be accurate! There's another out there that claims we have only one tenth of the traffic that another says, and that m.com has on average 10 hits a day.
It is CRAP! It was meant to be a funny "Look how happy I am now LOL" quick sidepoke to lighten up your work day that I found while clicking nowhere in particular.

Of course I care if people make use of all the things we provide, if all that work is appreciated, if those few that still bother posting their stuff here too dont do so in vain, and that we DO provide goodness for the masses by not requiring people to create an account first.
But its not like I minded if someothersite.com has more or less whatever-one-defines-as-traffic. And m.com just happened to be the first they had stats for when I wanted to see if their data had any connection to reality at all, I tried two other pawslut forums first that came to my mind but there were no stats for those.

One of these days Dino is killing me.

That looks like some pretty hardcore popularity to me (if the graph's to be believed) even without member site statistics. Bearing in mind that Fur Affinity is THE place to go for furry art of any sort, LD5, as a herpy-macro-podophilia forum system, does incredibly well to be getting 1/3 of the hits that FA does.

The only way to get more people here would be to diversify the subject matter, IE SELL OUT. Don't do that! The community doesn't need wishy-washy rivals to FA, it needs smaller communities that focus on more specific fantasies - of which LD5 seems to be the most popular (I checked us against Eccentricities too).

Free muffins for all! Perhaps if everyone was a larger example of scaly perfection, we'd get still more attention. So yeah, eat and get big. :3

I however don't really care about site popularity. I enjoy it here, and that's good enough for me.

First off, if Blue is wife #3 then who is #2? I thought Blue was #2. :O

Secondly, I don't much care if we're popular or not myself. I like the fact that we're such a small, close-knit community. Sure, it's great to be popular, but being popular is overrated. Unless you tailor to the masses then we're never going to get as popular as such sites as say Furaffinity and yet we tailor to a small subset of the furry (or scaly in some cases) fandom.

I really like how we all kind of know each other here and though we have lots of visitors that wish to remain anonymous I can't help but let this remind me of high school. It's like we're the small group of friends that sit around at a table playing our Magic (TM) card games and video games and we get people looking in every so often to see what we're up to. Every so often we'll pique someone's interest enough for them to introduce themselves and we'll let them join in on our fun as well.

I like the fact that 99% of the time we tend to get along. I don't need any drama (c) like the Evil Empire (TM) has as I would rather watch a soap if I cared enough for that. So my question to you, Dino, is do you care?

Wow...that's actually interesting someone actually asked me. I thought it was pretty clear in my start to this thread that I don't give a rat's ass how popular we are, that's Blue's job. Well, maybe that's not entirely true. I *do* care to get more sexyfeets around so I can put slippers on them. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I run LD5 so that I don't have to do all that tedious web surfing to scan for pr0n I like. I'm lazy. Wow, am I lazy! I really don't visit other sites unless someone pokes me. Only other pr0n sites I visit are human giantess ones, and that's just whenever I need a hit from a different source. Having all you guys post your claws 'n' paws here is the best thing to ever happen to me.

And...if you guys get to see it, too...meh, I guess that's good, too.

And if I ever got my real start as an artist, it would certainly be here because I don't care about silly statistics like "pageviews." My concept of a milestone is actually posting something.

do note that furaffinity is 90% porn, out of that 10% is stolen art with attached uman bits, 80% is bad or terribly drawn one with attached human bits.

following above note that 30% of 'furs' (easy excuse, no?) are there for the porn, 30% are there for the porn too, and 10% are there to sell them that porn.

and do note I did no ral maths and I just gotten up, but you get the idea.
