My first attempt at proper textures (but not proper enough to take the black outlines away).

One of my long term fantasies: waking up in the middle of the night to find a sleeping raptor slumped nearby with his big sleek raptor soles exposed alongside my head. The question is, how hard can those pads be licked without him waking up?

Image

The scales are all individually hand-drawn and the pad texture is a modified trace of various hand prints.

This goes along perfectly with a story I'm in the middle of right now! I know I say this every time, but this is absolutely amazing!

I agree that hand-drawing scales is always the best! Although that really, REALLY must have been a pain in the arse to do it!

This is amazing work. The art world has even more to anticipate from you now that you've started texturing. Jeez...this is amazing. *Nuzzles you fondly for your textures!*

 Wow!

All the scales individually hand-made? Gosh, it surely took you whole days!!! But, woah, what an awesome result! :D

Hmmmm, those lovely raptor paw soles. :P To avoid waking him up, just use some chloroform or some other tranquilizers and voila! He'll stay asleep for sure!

Excellent job as always, Diablo! You're improving fast, that's cool! 8-)

Magnificent, Diablo! I love all of the textures you've chosen, from the irregular pebbled scales to the textured pads, and the shine on the claw! And showing these feetsies off on a black background was definitely the only way to go. They look so cool and inviting. :)

I love the use for finger/handprints for pad texturing! But not so sure about the hand drawn pebble scale texture I'm afraid; it looks a bit like water droplets and blisters (eww) to me, rather than scalely hide.

But still, I applaud this first attempt with textures! I wish I knew how to make them! Best I can do is a bit of random noise with some motion blur! I need to find out how to do the rotation stuff, or if it's even possible in PS7 (there's a 'random' rotation option for each brush stamp, and an option to rotate based on stylus tilt or pressure, is that it?).

it must of taken you ages to make this! such dedication to the fetish of lizard feet!
just one very very small crique though. it is really small. i hope you dont mind. where is his legs? or do they belong to the shadow in the background?
but still brilliant though! like i said in another topic, your new artwork has been the best so far!

Thanks very much for the comments, everyone, and the scale and lack-of-leg critique, Aeon and Anstillion! The scales should probably be bigger, flatter and smoother - if I ever try this kind of thing again I'll try and make them look less rough and more inviting.

Also, rotating the brush based on the pen pressure sounds pretty mental to me, but you might be able to create some cool effects that way!
