Well, finished going through all the assets I had accumulated. Now I need to go through and convert all the model files to X format. Since the game engine is Windows and DirectX 9.0c, kinda best to use the native format. Was looking into some of the neat add-ons for DarkBASIC Professional, and looks like they'll use the X format as well. Was looking at the one that merges animations smoothly, so you could go from walk to run and stop or whatever however you wanted and it would do the interpolation for you. When I make the new model demo, I'll need to figure out how I can mix traditional animations all blended-like with the physics engine. Having a dragon walk is one thing, but having its clawfeets be all ragdolly and supple as they smish buildings is even better. :)

That's the Black Fur Texture from my SL avatar, thought it'd come in handy.

If you set up a wine emulator on it, it should probably run. You can either do it freebie with wine or you could buy the Cedega Gaming Service which lets you play Windows DirectX 9 games on Linux. I wish they offered it on the Mac instead of just selling customized wrappers for individual games...

Anyway, I've been through and converted and cleaned up all the buildings models I had. Also did my "landscapes" folder, which currently just has the Sun and all the planets in it. Saturn is a bit nerfed ring-wise now, but the rest look good. The Earth, in particular, will look quite acceptable as either a small toy for a giant or when the giant is a fraction of the Earth's size...

Speaking of which, should start classifying the kinds of simulations I'll be making with it. Once I have resources assembled, I need to work on a model demo again and a character/landscape editor.

Simulations ?

I thought the idea was to make a 3D version of the muck or is that impossible currently ?

They're the same to me. It'll be networked. Macro simulations with people playing parts over the net. I will be sure to include single-player action. :)

Ah, like basically a macro version of Second Life, only without the hard coded limitations that are built into Second Life naturally.

Then get to work, Maksio! :) Who here would be interested in doing some grunt work to digitize a new model? Jenn picked up a nice looking anthro tiger warrior toy the other day, and figured it'd be a chance to dig out that program that'll take pictures of it and make a 3D model.

Basically, I print out a floor grid and place the model on it, and take a zillion pictures of it from lots of angles. Then the grunt work is in masking out the outline of the model and clicking on all the reference points that are visible. Then the program chews on that and spits out a model.

Who'd be interested in helping with the picture processing? The software, DSculptor, is free, so you if you don't like pirating you don't even have to have Conscience(tm) problems. If I can get at least a couple people interested in doing the grunt work, I'll use the model. :)

If I had the time and wasn't in dictionary under definition of 'complete un-talent', I would do 'something' ;)

and if this thingy thing, is just clicking once and twice then leaving CPU to do lots of procesing, then sure. I feel like a grunt.

Does this work with art too?

EDIT: How exactly is D Sculptor free?
