This project started out as an awesome, but pretty crazy idea back on May 31st 2009, when the following lines popped up during an IM session between Ahastar and me:
Quote:
[19:55] Diablo: One day we'll have to do a full trample comic together
[19:55] Diablo: Maybe alternate with the sketching and colouring
[19:56] Diablo: That would be immeasurably hardcore
[19:56] Ahastar: I wouldn't mind that at all! In fact, I would actively enjoy it!
[19:56] Ahastar: I would advocate Bolt and Ahastar for it
Fortunately though, we are both crazy dinosaurs, so in the Summer we threw together some plans in Open Canvas and got stuck in!
We split the workload in half with what turned out to be remarkably accurate foresight - Ahastar took care of the layouts, tracing, frame and page backgrounds, and fire effects, while I did the sketching, character colouring, blood, text and other effects - and combined together, the two workloads took almost exactly the same amount of time. We both worked together on the concept, storyboard and dialogue.
It's been just fractionally over six months between the first frame being sketched (
01.jpg) and the finishing touches being finished earlier today, but I'm so happy with the results that it might as well have been six years for all I care! What follows is a 40-frame, 11 page comic depicting the kind of scene that Ahastar and I have roleplayed with creepy frequency for the last few years: Bolt - the lively, playful and sadistic young bronze dragon - trampling to a messy end Ahastar - the resilient, resurrecting half-demon deinonychus with whom you are doubtlessly very familiar! If you don't like blood, stop reading here
Many, many thanks to Ahastar for producing this comic with me and for his raptorly support during the whole project. It's been a lot of fun!
Edit: Sorry for the multiple posts - we had technical issues!
