I'm having trouble with keeping my Butterfly going well. I think that main problem is after the breach, and maybe going a bit too deep in the water. Any tips? ------ 6km of herm. ^__~ |

Oh, wow, someone else actually likes swimming! And butterfly! *geeking out*
Well, Ciraeon, hmm...by the breach, you mean breaking the surface? If so, then just relax and keep in mind that butterfly is one continuous movement. Try a few 25s going slowly so you don't get tired at all, and keep your head and shoulders a bit lower in the water. When you breathe at this very slow pace, you won't need to fill your lungs completely with air, so just take a quick small breath and immediately put your head back down. While it's up, you're spending more energy very quickly. Try going as slow as you can and still maintatin the best technique possible; it's challenging, but worth it. Once you feel more balanced, then you can add speed. To keep from going too deep, reach *forward* instead of down, like you were going to touch the other wall in one stroke. You may want to look up a few times at your hands to make sure you're stretching out. Heck, you are 6 kilometers long, show it! And please tell me more, maybe I can pinpoint the problem. (edit) Additionally, if it's very tiring, you can choose not to bring your hands together in the recovery, like when you see shots of butterflyers from the front when their hands enter the water directly in front of their heads, they go all the way. You can put them in when they're still some inches to a foot or a little more apart.

Alright, I'll give that a shot next time I go to a swim. The lanes are usually empty here, so it shouldn't be a problem to get some room to practice. I'll let you know how it comes out. ------ 6km of herm. ^__~ |

I, for one, want to see six kilometers of hermaphroditic, anthropomorphic dragon do the butterfly. When's the next swim meet? ------------------------------- Dinosorceror, Administrator Lava Dome Five Enterprises |

Dino, I'm looking to build up the team. When are you going to get in the water? And Ciraeon, please tell me more, I'd love to work more technique stuff. Are you in 25 or 50 meters? Er, hundreds of kilometers? I had a nice post made here before, but I took so long writing it I timed out and lost it. D'oh!
