Well...first thing about Nuclear weapons are that they are dangerous. Don't toy around with nukes.
Second thing. If we have a nuclear powerplant, and it's not shielded, that just means terrorists have a pre-made nuke.

Nukes are way too dangerous. Not only because of their ability to destroy each and everything, but also because of radiation. You can destroy the enemy cities, but can`t use that region for years! A good, old AK-47 will do most jobs, too. Clean and noisy. And if terrorists blow up an AK-47, well... Funny kind of Jihad Retic Non Serviam

Actually, in spite of what you've seen in movies it's impossible for a nuclear reactor to go super critical and turn into an atom bomb. There simply isn't enough mass of material in any one spot. Chernobyl, the worst nuclear disaster in history was not, as many people think they know, a nuclear explosion. The Chernobyl disaster was caused by the staff turning off the coolant system to see what would happen! The reactor was old and poorly made so that when the reactor overheated the control rods jammed in the up position. With the reactor effectively a runaway, it overheated until it's coolant water boiled and reacted explosively with the graphite matrix of the reactor. In short Chernobyl was a dirty steam boiler explosion. Bronzewing. "It thinks we're either a threat, food or a mate - it's gonna either kill us, eat us or hump us." |

They turned off the coolant system JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN??? That`s pretty unbelievable! Perhaps one should take a gun, aim at the heads of those staff guys and pull the trigger. Just to see what would happen, of course... Are we really sure humankind is the most intelligent race on our planet? Retic Non Serviam

National Geographic did a segment on a similar event here in the US, where a reactor nearly had a meltdown, but was quickly averted with quick thinking. I think it was called 3 Mile Island, where it took place. The Dark God. |

True. I've heard of Chernobyl, but that's cause it wasn't properly shielded. Most nuclear accidents are averted by quick thinking and adequate shielding.
