Tether's work, hell on one shuttle mission, they tried it with making a good power supply vi a a tethers sattilite to  make electricity. The problem was the line snapped when a spark jumped, and you could see it from Earth as the glowing tether drifted away from Columbia. Tether's work, but they can snap,and once that happens you can kiss your ass goodbye forever. Unless the tether is made of some strong material.

IMO use a metal beam instead, it's stronger, and won't break.
